With an ebb-and-flow system, the water level beneath the surface is controlled so the footing is moistened evenly from below. Water rises and falls in a controlled flow, giving stable moisture without wet patches and reducing the need for frequent overhead watering. The solution is especially suited where evenness and low water use matter — for example paddocks, riding arenas and other sports surfaces.
